Where would you would use a bar graph instead of a line graph?

A bar graph would be used rather than a line graph to indicate different quantities or numbers of things that are distinct: such as the number of people of different ages in a group.
A line graph is used to show a change in something, such as the growth of a person over some years.
A line graph would also be more appropriate when showing a ratio.
