GE has three major arms: credit services, capital goods and consumer products. Capital goods are pieces of large business equipment like power plants, medical equipment, jet engines and locomotives. Thanks to the economy they're not selling very many jet engines or locomotives. Their financial services arm is suffering the same fate as all other financial stocks, and their consumer goods are generally expensive ones--refrigerators and things like that. Basically, their stock is tanking because people can't afford to buy what they make.
