Is Water Proof Floor Laminate recommended for Bathrooms?

Laminates are made of a plywood/mdf board coated with a laminated veneer. The laminated surface is water proof, but the material it is bonded to is usually not. Water can work its way down into the fine spaces between each section of laminate and be absorbed by the board underneath. This can cause that material to swell and eventually warp the laminate surface. There can also be issues of mold. You can buy vinyl wood plank flooring that looks more like wood than many of the laminates. It is very waterproof, and easy to clean. This product is high quality and you can expect to pay anywhere from $3 to $5 a square foot.
