What source material are tables and chairs made from?

The vast majority of tables are made of wood, also known as lumber. Modern furniture may use metal nails or the traditional construction, with or without glues. Chairs often include fabric upholstery for comfort.

Chairs and some tables are also made from metals such as steel and aluminum. Much inexpensive outdoor furniture in the US is now made from plastics such as polystrene and PVC, which are made from petroleum (oil).
