He became the fourth President of Maldives and the third President of the Second Republic of Maldives on 2008 November 11, with running mate Mohammed Waheed Hassan Manik becoming Vice President. On 2012 February 7, there was coup d'etat which forced Nasheed to resign. Vice President Hassan became the President of the Maldives.
