ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is primarily manufactured in the mitochondria of eukaryotic cells through a process called oxidative phosphorylation, which occurs during cellular respiration. In prokaryotic cells, ATP is produced in the cytoplasm via glycolysis and the plasma membrane through similar electron transport processes. Additionally, ATP can also be generated in the cytoplasm during glycolysis and through substrate-level phosphorylation in various metabolic pathways.
