What happens to Florida's little tree frogs when weather gets cold?

When cold weather arrives in Florida, little tree frogs, like the squirrel tree frog, enter a state of brumation, which is similar to hibernation. During this period, their metabolic rates decrease significantly, allowing them to conserve energy. They often seek shelter in leaf litter, under logs, or in other protected areas to avoid freezing temperatures. Once the weather warms up, they emerge to resume their normal activities.
