Contacts, or contact lenses, were invented in Germany. The concept was first proposed by Leonardo da vinci in the 1500s, but the first practical contact lenses were developed by German ophthalmologist Adolf Fick in 1887. These early lenses were made of glass and were designed to cover the entire eye. Over the years, advancements in materials and design have led to the modern soft and rigid gas-permeable contact lenses we use today.
