There were apparently more than one city of the Confederacy under siege near the end of the War Between the States. They were:
1) Richmond, VA, which was burned at the end of the war. Also, Petersburg,
2) Atlanta was under siege, and Union general Tescumah Sherman burned a swathe from Atlanta to the sea, burning all livestock and other goods that would have been an aid to the southerners. After Sherman burned most of Georgia, he said, "War is hell." He should know.
General Robert E. Lee, commander of the Confederate forces, surrounded to Ulysses Grant at Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia.
