What is a prophetic writing?

Prophetic writings can be visions or dreams that has been given to a person that has not yet occurred but eventually will and once the vision or dream has come to pass the prophetic writing has been fulfilled. Some example of prophetic writing are found in the Bible, where prophets speak on the coming on a Savior (Christ) in the Old Testament and the prophecy comes to pass in the New Testament when Christ is born.
