How did the goddess ariadne die?

There are two distinct theories on how Ariadne died. One claim is that she was killed by Perseus, the father of Hercules, on his island of Argos. According to this legend she was turned to stone by Perseus when he held the head of Medussa up for her to see. The other theory claims she hung herself from a tree and died.

Technically she didn't stay that way as histories have claimed her to be rescued by her husband Dionysus from the bowels of Hades. Once they escaped they both traveled to the Mount of Olympus where she became a true goddess and named Libera.
