The early Spaniards did not extensively explore Idaho as they focused primarily on areas in the Southwest, such as California and New Mexico, during their expeditions in the 16th and 17th centuries. However, some Spanish explorers, like Francisco Vázquez de Coronado, ventured into parts of the western United States, but their journeys did not significantly cover the territory that is now Idaho. It wasn't until the late 18th and early 19th centuries that more thorough exploration of Idaho occurred, primarily by Lewis and Clark and other American explorers.
