The fighting in the American Revolution ended in 1781 following the surrender of British General Cornwallis to US General Washington in the Battle of Yorktown, Virginia. However, the war did not officially end until the Treaty of Paris of 1783 was signed between the nascent United States, the United Kingdom, France, and other US allies (such as Spain and the Netherlands).
