solutions are homogeneous mixtures where the substances are dissolved in one another. the particles are indistinguishable from one another. suspensions are heterogeneous mixtures where the particle size is greater than 1mm. pond water, etc. colloids are suspensions where the particle size is between 0.001 - 1 mm. mayonnaise, yogurt, milk, etc. This would put soapy water in the colloid category because you cannot typically see a soap molecule unless there are many, many molecules together forming a soap bubble. otherwise, the soap forms things called micelles which are microscopic.
