Tropical cyclones, commonly referred to as tropical storms (TS), form in the South Atlantic when warm, moist air rises over warm ocean waters, typically above 26.5°C (80°F). This rising air creates a low-pressure system, drawing in surrounding air, which also warms and rises, leading to further development. For a tropical storm to form, favorable conditions such as low wind shear and sufficient Coriolis effect are also necessary. However, the South Atlantic sees fewer tropical storms compared to other ocean basins due to its cooler sea surface temperatures and less conducive atmospheric conditions.
