II Timothy 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [which is] instruction in righteousness:"

Correction is one of the scripture's three components of inspiration and profitability. Along with doctrine and reproof, it completes the curriculum of the believer's instruction in righteousness. Let's examine each of these components. Doctrine is how to believe rightly. Ephesians, a doctrinal epistle, states foundational truth regarding trusting God's Word as the gospel of our salvation.

Ephesians 1:13 "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the Word of truth, the gospel of your salvation..."

Once inspired by doctrinal truth, our new perspective enables us to apply it in our lives and take action. At that point, we are walking in the "all truth" that Jesus spoke of when he prophesied that "...the Spirit of truth... will guide you into all truth." Along our inspirational journey, another form of truth that will inspire us is reproof. Just as light dispels darkness, God's Word rebukes us at places where we are not believing rightly.

Philippians 2:15 "That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God... in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;"

Words like those in Philippians, a reproof epistle, often speak so vividly to our minds that we can pinpoint dark spots in our lives. The final component of our instruction in righteousness is correction. God's Word corrects us by telling us how to get back to right believing and more capably walking in the "all truth." An example of correction is Colossians, rich with life-changing truths that are often the inspirational key to knowing exactly what to do.

Colossians 3:16 "Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs..."

God's Word impresses our spirit with correctional truth that we can implement. This allows us to rid our lives of wrong believing and, with greater brilliance, radiate God's light.

Colossians 4:6 "Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man."
