How did the homestead act end?

The Homestead Act put an end to a â??landless classâ?? in America. Anyone who wanted to be a landowner and was willing to work and till the land for at least five years was entitled to free land. The Act increased land ownership and made it possible for citizens and immigrants who wanted to be citizens to achieve the American dream of land ownership.
