The Aztecs believed they had found their new home when they saw an eagle perched on a cactus, devouring a snake. This vision was interpreted as a divine sign and fulfilled the prophecy given to them by their god Huitzilopochtli. They eventually settled in what is now Mexico City, where they established their capital, Tenochtitlan, based on this significant omen. This symbol of the eagle, cactus, and snake has since become a powerful national emblem of Mexico.
