What is the main point of the EU?

The original goal was to form alliances to work on stability and economic cooperation between the countries. After the MaastrichtTreaty in 1993, the European Union became an organisation that agreed on shared foreign policies and committment to cooperation on security matters. There are 28 member states at present. Thre is a 'single market policy, including free movement of goods, services, people, money. EU members remain independent nations, but they share common domains. Its motto: United in diversity.
