What observation of mitochondria DNA are used to support the hypothesis of recent African origins of modern homo sapiens?

While most of your DNA is a combination of both your mother's and father's DNA and genes, mitochondrial DNA (the DNA inside the tiny part inside each of your cells) comes only from the mother - thus, we have mitochondrial DNA in each of our cells from "Eve" or whatever you want to call the first female human being.
