It is customary for Gondoliers to wear stripes just like sailors usually wear blue. It's just the classic way of dress for a gondolier. It's usually black pants a blue and white striped shirt and a while jacket, there's also this little hat with ribbons, it looks kinda like Donald ducks hat.
