When do you put a clear coat of nail polish on?

I always put a coat on before I paint my nails. If you leave nail polish on your nails too long, they will turn yellow. Clear coat usually protects your nails from this. Then, after you paint your nails and they dry, put another coat on to protect your nail polish from chipping and to make it look shinier!
