Flappers were young ladies of the 1920s who cut their hair slightly below their ears instead of letting it hang down to their waist. They threw away their belts. Some of them shortened their dresses so their knees could be seen. Instead of having their collar tight around their necks, some of them wore an open collar. They changed from boot like shoes to much lighter models. Some of their elders were shocked at their clothing and wondered what the younger generation was coming to. As always, some girls were sexually promiscuous and a number were not.
Actually, almost all young women adopted some features of that lifestyle. Most had their hair cut shorter, although not as short. Most went to shorter dresses. Most went to looser dresses although they kept their belts. Most no longer kept their necks covered although they did not expose as much of their chest.
