Also, Hitler did not fight the way that European military leaders had fought for over a century. He bypassed the Maginot Line of France, a heavily fortified defense built specifically to stop German troops from invading France, by invading the supposedly neutral Low Countries. The Blitzkreig was a combined armoured, paratrooper, and air assault, which overwhelmed the antiquated defenses of its targets.
