Augusta National Golf Club began allowing women to become members in 2012. Prior to that, the club had a long-standing policy that excluded women from membership since its founding in 1933. The decision to admit women came after years of public pressure and changing societal norms regarding gender equality in sports. The first two female members were former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and financier Darla Moore.
