Assuming that a typical page of text holds about 2000 characters, then the CD-ROM can hold about :

650 MB/2 KB or 325,000 pages.

Unicode would store half as much, but with multilingual capability.

This result does not include space used for illustrations. It also does not include fonts and graphic formatting used for WYSIWYG display, which would require some space. The result gives a good idea of the incredible capacity of CD-ROMs.
