This is an excerpt from a New York Times article from 2006...The Food and Drug Administration has banned H.G.H. for all but a few specific medical conditions (see "The Outlaw Drug"), and it has been banned by most professional sports leagues in the United States and by the International Olympic Committee I would add that even with a prescription, only a teen of shorter than average stature would benefit from this substance. After bones have stopped growing, use by an adult causes extraordinary stress on organ systems like the heart and liver. An obvious side effect is acromegaly, or abnormal bone overgrowth especially seen in the face. This is why many athletes who use this seem to have larger heads or more prominent facial bones than usual (see Mickey Rourke and Barry Bonds).
