The question falsely assumes that philosophers are eccentric. They are not necessarily eccentric. On the other hand, to be a philosopher is to lead an examined life. Therefore, philosophers are more self-conscious and thoughtful about what they think, say, and do than those who do not lead examined lives. If they sometimes appear eccentric to nonphilosophers, that may be the reason.
