What is a wire made of?

There are three main core materials for wires in cars:

1. Copper is the most common
2. Graphite is the core of most spark plug wires
3. Steel

There are many insulation materials used and each has a different proper name.

I just think of them as plastic. (and I admit this is incorrect)
