Is a period the same as ovulation?

No. A menstrual period is from one to several days long, where the uterine lining is shed in the absence of fertilization. Ovulation, which occurs approximately halfway through the menstrual cycle (a time about one month long), is the release of the unfertilized egg from the ovary down the fallopian tube to the uterine wall. If fertilization occurs, the egg implants into the uterine wall resulting in a baby several months later.. If fertilization does not occur, there is no menstrual period period and the egg, along with the lining of the uterus, is expelled in the menstrual cycle, or period.
