Examples include the Spanish Inquisition and the Salem witch trials.
Religious persecution is the systematic mistreatment of an individual or group of individuals as a response to their religious beliefs or affiliations or lack thereof. Examples include residential schools for natives in North America & the Holocaust.-The previous answer suggested that Religious cleansing are considered sins by the moral code or commandments of the instigating religion and I agree, but I felt that it did not answer the question sufficiently.
