What is wrong with people today?

Extremely self-absorbed and greedy as far as I can see. I find the cruelty to children and animals most disturbing. How can we hope to achieve gracious good manners when we are fighting for civilty and humane treatment . Continue to lead by example and hope for the best, and raise your children well. It's all we can do.
