The Angel of the North, designed by artist Antony Gormley, was constructed between 1994 and 1998. It is made of steel and stands 20 meters tall with a wingspan of 54 meters. The structure was fabricated using over 200 tons of weathering steel, which develops a rust-like appearance over time, allowing it to blend with its surroundings. The installation was completed in February 1998 and has since become an iconic symbol of North East England.
