An adhesion is scar tissue usually caused by in infection or surgical procedures of the abdominopelvic region or some other type of trauma. Adhesions can occur elsewhere, but they cause the most problems in the belly.
Separation of intestinal adhesions means a prior trauma caused a section of the intestine to cling to something else, and it is causing discomfort or hindering a normal process. Removal of the adhesion will "make it all better" in most cases.
