Why is St. Andrew so important?

Andrew was the first apostle called by Our Lord. He preached the in Asia Minor, Greece and, possibly, in Russia. He was taken prisoner in Greece and crucified on an X-shaped cross. He hung on the cross for two days before he died, preaching the entire time.
