If we use it up faster than it renews. Wood is a good example. Wood is usually renewable, because we can plant more trees that will replace the ones we have cut down.

But if we don't plant enough trees, or if we use wood faster than it grows, or if we cut down rainforest trees that have taken hundreds of years to grow, then wood is non-renewable.
