In California, a security guard cannot carry a gun to work unless they are licensed as an armed security guard. The rules are very strict:
Unarmed security guards:
They are not allowed to carry a firearm while on duty. They only need a standard Guard Card.
Armed security guards:
They can carry a firearm, but only if they have a valid BSIS Firearm Permit in addition to their Guard Card. This permit requires fingerprinting, background checks, classroom training, and live-fire qualification.
