What is the definition of a stereotype in regard to culture?

It is the most frequent image that comes to mind when we think of an individual from a certain culture, I.e. Spaniards are noisy people or British drink a lot. There are people in both cultures who do not represent the stereotype but the sterotype is a salient member of the category Spanish or British to the externaL eye.
