Is lead sulfide bad for the skin?

The lead is absorbed by the skin and over a long time it affects the human nervous system. "Hatters shakes" is an industrial disease due to the felt used in the hat-making industry, having to be treated by hand with lead compounds. Hence "as mad as a hatter" is an old-fashioned synonym.
