Yes, it is odd and I felt like a freak for ages. The reason is some people can inherit blonde alleles from BOTH parents, but if both parents had red alleles then red throws up. I have this because I inherited my dad's red/blonde allele's and my mother's blonde/red alleles. These aren't particularly great genes as they are accompanied by easily burnt/freckled skin (& prob Irish heritage).
I am:
- light blonde with slightly ash&copper tones on my head
- light blonde/ash leg&arm hair, ash blonde underarm hair.
- light blonde eyebrows - I put dark blonde-ash eye shadow on every morning so I don't look like I'm recovering from chemo.
- light blonde eye lashes - really long and fine...but you can't see them unless I dye them blue black. Which I do regularly. (same chemo reasons)
- caramel/copper down south...
My head hair goes ash blonde in winter and light blonde in summer with yellow-copperish tinge in sunlight. I freckle/burn VERY easily (in Melbourne, Australia) and have blue/ash eyes. I have five younger siblings with similar skin, but the variance in head hair/eye colour is amazing! We range from dark blonde(hazel eyes) to auburn (blue eyes) to lighter ash blonde (ash/light blue eyes). My Dad was white blonde as a child, turned brown as an adult yet grows an auburn beard. My Mum was one of eight and was freckled & blue eyed (they all were...) but inherited the lighter auburn/blonde.
