Why is Jacob a main character of twilight?

Jacob is a main character for the reason that he is part of the love triangle between Edward, Bella, and himself. He plays a large part in New Moon aswell. In Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, too. He isn't in Twilight much though. He is mainly introduced in New Moon. But his being there for Bella is what made over half of New Moon. Without Jacob, Bella wouldn't have gone to anyone and it would have also made the story less interesting for readers and watchers. It gives the suspense to read until the end. Readers wish to know who she ends up with though most people know that it is Edward, though they still wish to see all of the events that occur with the vampires and warewolves. It is very suspensful and a very good read.
