Interlopers cause and effect

In "The Interlopers" by Saki, the cause is the longstanding feud between the two families, the Znaeym and the Gradwitz. The effect is that they become trapped under a fallen tree together, leading them to momentarily set aside their differences and reconcile before a tragic twist ends their reconciliation.
