What did algonquins use as traps?

The Algonquin tribe of the Ottawa River valley in Ontario and Quebec, Canada hunted deer using "funnel traps" and "noose traps", among other methods.

Both of these techniques were illustrated by early French explorers (see link below for an image).

The funnel trap consisted of a system of fences (probably not as professional as those in the drawing) which led deer into a narrow funnel and then a corral where they could easily be speared or shot with arrows. The noose trap consisted of a rope with a noose tied at one end with a slipknot; the other end of the rope was tied to a bent-over sapling. As the deer stepped on the noose, the sapling was released, hoisting the deer into the air with its leg caught in the noose.

It is likely that the Algonquin also used the funnel trap underwater in lakes and rivers for catching fish and eels.
