I am presuming you have a misfire on a cylinder first remove the fuse for your fuel pump preventing your engine to start but still able to crank it right now remove the spark plug and put the lead back on the plug hold the spark plug near your engine or chassis and get a friend to crank the car over you should see a spark jump to the metal the plug is near if you have a weak spark your best bet is to purchase a new HT lead due to high resistance in the lead but if there is no spark you either have a wiring fault or a faulty coil pack causing the problem to check get a multi meter and earth the black lead onto an earth point and place a pin into the rear of the connector that controls the spark firing and set your meter to volts you should see battery voltage when ignition is on only if it's a coil over plug system if your car has a distributor remove it and check your contact breakers for wear as they pit in the middle making the spark weaker New distributor is required in that situation for easy fix or adjust the contact breakers and file them so they're true
