Jose Rizal poem 'To Josephine' was written for Josephine Bracken, the woman he loved and to whom he shared his life with from 1985 until his death, occurred in 1986. They wanted to get married, by Rizal's problems with the authorities because of his revolutionary ideas were an obstacle. Despite of this, they started living together and he referred to her as his wife.
