How many lyme disease deaths have been recorded?

Lyme disease is generally considered a treatable condition, and deaths from it are extremely rare. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there have been fewer than 20 deaths attributed directly to Lyme disease in the United States since the disease was first recognized in the 1970s. Most cases result in symptoms that can be effectively managed with antibiotics, making fatalities uncommon.
