Where did inukshuks originate?

Inuksuit originated in northwest America and Canada as a message form by the Inuit people. They can range from just one or two stone of a certain shape, to a carefully planned pile of stones to leave a message or simply mean "man has been here" . Inuksuit in the shape of a human is called 'Innunquaq.'
