What happens when you keep a lizard as a pet?

Before you even consider getting a lizard you must research the needs of the animal to survive in captivity. What does it eat and can you buy the diet locally? Does it require ultraviolet light from the sun or a special lamp? Does it need a hiding place or sand in which to burrow? Does it need a dry or humid environment? Does it require water for soaking?

It is much more complicated than just dropping a lizard into a terrarium. If you are not willing to meet the needs of the animal, you should not get one.
