Do stalactite rise on the floor or hang from the ceiling of limestone caves?

Stalactites hang from the ceiling of limestone caves. They form as mineral-rich water drips from the cave ceiling, leaving behind deposits of calcium carbonate that gradually build up over time. In contrast, stalagmites rise from the floor of the cave, formed by the dripping water that falls from above.
