What are some new sources of energy being studied in hopes that they will replace fossil fuels?

Some examples include:

  • wind
  • solar photovoltaic
  • solar thermal
  • hydroelectric
  • nuclear fission
  • geothermal
  • tidal
  • ocean current
  • wave
  • biomass
  • waste to energy

These are not really NEW as we have been using these sources for many years. Even nuclear fusion is not new.

It is important to understand that Hydrogen is not an energy source. It can be used to store and distribute energy, after it has been produced by splitting water, but we can't mine Hydrogen like we do mine Coal - so it is not a source.
